We’ve had some amazing Friday Night opening shows at Long Division – The Cribs, British Sea Power, Gang Of Four and Pictish Trail to name but four. But this year we’ve taken the decision to mix things up a little.
Because let’s be fair – there is alot of music already on Saturday. We saw it as a chance to offer something a little different that fits in with our desire to look at the wider arts in Wakefield.
So we’ve teamed up with Chinwag (who some of you may have seen interviewing Brix Smith and John Robb at The Art House in 2018) to create a brand new event called Write Place, Write Time which will take place on June 1st. Within the grand but intimate surroundings of the Kingswood Suite of Wakefield Town Hall, Chinwag’s Chris Madden will speak with our Saturday headliner Billy Bragg and journalist Laura Snapes (Guardian, Observer, Pitchfork, Q) about the creative and writing processes whilst sharing stories of their time in the music business.
The event will also raise money for the Chinwag affiliated charity MAP who work with young people at risk of exclusion from mainstream education through music and the creative industries.
Tickets are limited but available now and there is an option to pay an extra £5, all of which will go to MAP.
