In June 2011, Long Division saw 50 bands play Wakefield, including The Wedding Present, Darwin Deez and Los Campesinos! The festival sold out.
In June 2012, Long Division saw 72 bands play Wakefield, including The Vaselines, Art Brut and Aidan Moffat & Bill Wells. With an increased capacity, we were 99 tickets short of selling out.
In June 2013, Long Division saw 368 people perform (that's 82 performances across 53 hours) in Wakefield, including The Fall, Ghostpoet and Jeffrey Lewis. It was our biggest year ever. We paid every single band. We paid our volunteers. It sold out. It was awesome.
But in June 2014 there will be no Long Division.
Because, in September 2014, Unity Hall opens in the very centre of Wakefield. It is a 700 capacity music venue, with a second venue and cafe inside. It is run as a co-operative by local people and will change Wakefield forever.
So we thought it was worth, for one year, moving ourselves from one end of the summer to the other. We hope you'll follow us for the best Long Division yet, a true celebration of the DIY ethos and independent culture.
The dates are September 12th - 14th.
Expect further announcements in the new year.
